Air Tanzania is set to achieve a significant milestone in its international expansion strategy with the launch of direct flights between Tanzania and Russia, beginning on July 2, 2026. The new service will connect Moscow and Zanzibar, providing travelers with a faster and more convenient gateway between East Africa and one of the world's largest travel markets.

The introduction of the route marks a major step for Air Tanzania as it continues to strengthen its global network and position Tanzania as a leading tourism and business destination. The airline has already opened ticket sales for the service, with the inaugural flight scheduled to depart Moscow on July 2. Flight time is expected to be approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes, significantly reducing travel time compared to existing one-stop connections.

According to the published schedule, Air Tanzania will operate the route three times per week using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. The service will link Dar es Salaam, Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, and Zanzibar, creating seamless connectivity for both leisure and business travelers.

The new route is expected to boost tourism arrivals from Russia, a market that has shown growing interest in Tanzania's world-renowned attractions. Russian travelers are increasingly drawn to destinations such as Zanzibar's pristine beaches, the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Direct air access is anticipated to further stimulate demand and support Tanzania's tourism growth ambitions.

Beyond tourism, the flights are expected to strengthen economic and trade relations between Tanzania and Russia. Improved connectivity will facilitate business travel, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges between the two nations. Tanzanian officials have highlighted the route as an important development in enhancing bilateral cooperation and creating new opportunities for commerce.

The launch follows discussions between Tanzanian and Russian authorities aimed at expanding aviation cooperation and improving transport links. Industry observers view the Moscow route as one of Air Tanzania's most ambitious international expansions in recent years and a clear indication of the airline's growing confidence in long-haul operations.

For travelers, the direct flights offer greater convenience, eliminating the need for lengthy layovers and providing a comfortable travel experience aboard Air Tanzania's modern Dreamliner fleet. The airline hopes the service will attract not only tourists but also investors, entrepreneurs, and business executives seeking easier access between the two regions.

As Air Tanzania spreads its wings further into international markets, the Moscow route represents a new chapter for both the airline and Tanzania's tourism industry. The July 2 launch is expected to open fresh opportunities, strengthen international partnerships, and showcase Tanzania's diverse attractions to a broader global audience.
