Engaresero Airstrip: A New Gateway to Lake Natron

Tanzania’s Wildlife Management Authority has completed construction of the Engaresero Airstrip in Ngorongoro District, Arusha Region, opening a more direct connection to Lake Natron—one of northern Tanzania’s most remote and remarkable natural destinations and a vital breeding site for lesser flamingos.

Completed in June 2026, the airstrip features a 1.2-kilometre runway measuring 23 metres wide. Following completion, the facility received certification from the Tanzania Airports Authority after meeting the required aviation safety standards.
